Major Arcana · VI

The Lovers Tarot Card Meaning

“A meaningful choice is here.”

The Lovers is card VI of the Major Arcana. It's about connection — but also about choice. This card often appears when a decision matters because it reflects what you truly value.

Number: VI
Arcana: Major
Life Oracle Yes/No: Yes

The Lovers core meaning

Connection, alignment and choosing from the heart.

Upright meaning

Upright, The Lovers points to deep connection and alignment, in love or in life. It can describe a meaningful relationship, a partnership, or a choice where you're asked to follow your heart and your values rather than convenience.

Reversed: a Life Oracle reflection

Life Oracle draws cards upright, so it doesn't give reversals a separate meaning. If you read with reversals, our interpretation is that a reversed The Lovers invites reflection on its core themes — connection, alignment and choosing from the heart — and whether your choices and relationships feel aligned with what you value.

Love & relationships

Deep connection — or a real choice to make.

In love, this is one of the most positive cards: deep connection, chemistry and choosing each other. It can also mean a real choice in your love life — between two people, or between staying and leaving. Choose with your heart and your values together.

Career & money

Pick the path aligned with your values.

For career and money, The Lovers favours partnerships and choices that match your values. If you're torn between two paths, pick the one you'd be proud of, not just the safer-looking one.

The Lovers: yes or no?

Life Oracle's Yes/No reading: Yes

The Lovers is a yes — especially for questions about relationships or choices that feel right deep down.

This is Life Oracle's interpretation, based on the card's tone in our deck (the same score our readings use), not a universal tarot rule.

Advice & message

“Choose what you truly value.”

Make the choice that matches who you are, not the one that just looks good on paper.

Symbolism in the artwork

In the Life Oracle artwork, two figures in starry robes join hands beneath a winged, glowing figure, with a heart shape made of stars between them. A sparkling tree stands on one side and a fiery tree on the other. The joined hands reflect connection, while the two different trees hint at the choice the card is known for.

When The Lovers appears in a reading

When The Lovers appears, look at the important relationships or decisions in your life. With The Devil, it can contrast healthy connection with attachment; with Temperance, it suggests balance and compromise between two people.
